It’s Burns’ Night. One of my favourite Burns quotes is the one (in translation!)

‘And would some Power give us the gift

To see ourselves as others see us!’

It reminds me of the conversation we had with a Kuala Lumpur taxi driver one evening, which went as follows:

Driver: ‘You from which country?’

Us: ‘UK’

Driver: ‘UK very good country. Very good country. Too many people. Very expensive. Very good country.’

Us: ‘Oh. Have you been there?’

Driver:  ‘No, never been there’
