No canoodling!

Until fairly recently taxis in Malaysia had the dubious reputation of being the worst in Asia. The authorities decided this was not a Good Thing, so introduced a number of measures;  a customer hotline, rules about using meters, etc. We heard about one passenger who reported a driver for refusing to switch on the meter – 4 days later he was informed that the driver had been suspended for 3 months. (Then, of course, our public-spirited passenger felt bad, because he hadn’t wanted the errant driver’s livelihood to be endangered… isn’t life complicated?)

We use taxis a lot in KL, and haven’t had any problems. Of course taxi drivers have rules for their passengers too. Wear your seat belt, don’t smoke, don’t bring durian into the cab…
