Happy Independence Day!
Malaysia is celebrating its 59th birthday today, 31 August, in style. Flags are everywhere (and a handsome flag it is, too), so the streets are very festive. And for days now we’ve been treated to the view, from our bedroom window, of fighter planes practising looping a loop or two in preparation for the show. Very exciting…
There were fireworks at midnight to usher in the big day. (Although that was a bit disconcerting actually, because we expected them at the end of the day not the beginning, and they woke me up). Maybe there’ll be more tonight…
Wonderful. Though if I’m honest, it does feel a little odd, living in a country that’s younger than we are…
I felt the same in India as I was born 3 months before independence! It meant that I was reminded of my age every August!
Hope all is well with you & Fred. We have the tour of Britain coming through Penrith on Monday complete with Wiggins & Cavendish. I doubt that the circumstances will be anywhere near those we experienced a couple of months ago while staying with you.
Love,
Len
