We thought our trip to Sarawak would be an opportunity to practice our Bahasa Malaysia language skills.

However, as we learned from the website of the Tourist Board:

“Iban* is generally used in Sarawak, however, English is widely understood”.

We did try our Bahasa, only to be told “it’s different here”. Ah well. So much for our language lessons. We do enjoy them, though.

*they forgot to mention Bidayuh and Penan and Melanau…
