They’re just not the same as the ones we’re used to in Europe. Instead we have:
Dry season.
Durian season. Love it or hate it, in season you’ll catch the aroma/stench (depending on your point of view) of this fruit from street stalls and markets. If you’re a durian lover, it might be a bit inconvenient that you aren’t allowed to take your favourite delicacy on to public transport, or in taxis, or into most hotels. For the rest of us, thank goodness.
Haze season. When particles from forest or plantation fires in neighbouring Indonesia can cause major air pollution in Singapore and Malaysia. 2015 (the year we arrived in Kuala Lumpur) was particularly bad, a ‘choking haze’ as the Straits Times put it. Since then, though, Indonesia has been congratulated for tackling the fires, so that ‘transboundary haze’ (whoever thinks of these terms, I wonder?) has not been a problem.
And wet season. When it rains. More accurately, when it rains more than usual. Er, I think that would be now….
